Dawg Flight Excursion to Taroko Gorge and Hualien, Taiwan
January 1972

Updated 02 November 2011 / Added 01 Dec 2008

These photos were taken by Chuck Jenkins (Dawg Flight: 1971-72), Paul Schultz (1970-72) and Johnny Parker (1971-72) on a January 25, 1972 trip down-island over a long break with several Dawg Flighters and friends to Taroko Gorge and nearby Hualien, Taiwan (click here for website) located on the central east coast of Taiwan by the Pacific Ocean. Everyone flew round trip via Taiwan's China Airlines from Taipei to Hualien and then traveled to Taroko Gorge via tour bus.
Taroko Gorge, a twelve mile long canyon, and its surrounding area are well known for their abundant supply of marble, leading to its nickname, "The Marble Gorge". The name, Taroko, means the "magnificent and beautiful".

Ray "Riccione" Riccitello's (Dawg Flight 1971-72) recollections of the trip: "We flew off on some converted "B-25" from Taipei to Hualien and motor-coached from there in the green bus (photo below). This I am sure of. No Air Force involvement. Let it be duly noted that the "stags" were not the reason for holding up the bus the next morning and "chiseewahing" ("ticking-off") the tour bus saujay. I can't recall just how many really went, quite a few of us." [29 Nov 2008]
